Since 2020 we are collecting discarded food from two supermarket outlets and several fruit and vegetable shops.
On a daily basis we pick up around 300 kg, which would otherwise end up on the local landfill site.
First, the food scraps are used to feed all animals on the farm.
This offers a diversified and nutrient rich diet.
Leftovers are added to our biogas reactor mixed with cow manure.
The production
is enough to supply two households with
cooking gas.
The biogas digestate can be used as natural fertilizer and unconsumed food waste is turned into compost.
Camp Coconut is not only home to us but also to our free-ranged chickens, guinea fowls, ducks, cows, dogs, a cat and a lot of wildlife.
Coconuts of course!
And besides of those we grow
all kinds of tropical fruits,
different vegetables and spices like
black pepper, cinnamon, turmeric & co.
